Electrical Technician

The Role:

The Electrical Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, inspection, testing, and repair of electrical systems and equipment, with a specific focus on systems utilising Schneider Electric products. This role ensures that all electrical work is performed safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with relevant national and international standards, regulations, and company policies.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting systems, switchboards, control panels, and wiring infrastructure
  • Read, interpret, and work from electrical drawings, blueprints, technical diagrams, and schematics
  • Assemble and wire industrial and commercial control panels, ensuring proper integration with automated systems and PLCs
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and performance testing of electrical systems to ensure reliability and regulatory compliance
  • Diagnose malfunctions using electrical testing instruments and apply technical knowledge to resolve issues effectively
  • Maintain detailed documentation of maintenance activities, inspections, test results, system modifications, and inventory usage
  • Ensure adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, electrical codes (e.g., NEC, IEC), and company policies at all times
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good operational condition, ensuring calibration and proper storage
  • Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and emergency repair needs, minimising downtime
  • Recommend enhancements to system performance, safety practices, and preventive maintenance procedures

Knowledge and Experience

  • Technical diploma or vocational training in Electrical Technology, Industrial Electronics, or a related discipline
  • Valid electrical license or certification, as required by local, regional, or national regulations
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in an electrical technician role, preferably in industrial, commercial, or building service environments
  • Experience with the installation and servicing of control panels, industrial machinery, or building automation systems is advantageous
  • Working knowledge of Schneider Electric products and systems is a strong asset

Required skills and abilities:

  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, circuitry, circuit protection, and applicable electrical codes
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical schematics, diagrams, and technical documentation
  • Effective troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities under time-sensitive conditions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team
  • Excellent organisational, documentation, and record-keeping skills
  • Good verbal and written communication skills

Bonus Skills

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD Electrical or similar electrical design software
  • Possession of a valid driving license to support on-site visits and service calls
  • Familiarity with programmable logic controllers (PLCs) and automation systems
  • Experience with energy management or smart building systems
